Download Brochure with Potential Changes to Fixed Routes

An on-going issue with the CAT fixed route service is keeping buses on schedule. The routes were originally set up 10 to 15 years ago and traffic volumes were lighter. In addition, over periodic "tweaks" to the routes have resulted in miles being added to routes, but changes have not been made to the run times. The result growing congestion and adding route miles is an increasing difficulty to keep on schedule.

As part of the transit development plan, changes to the current routes to reduce the run time (and improve on-time performance) have been proposed.

Review the proposed changes and provide comments.

UND Shuttle Integration and Service Added to Transit Development Plan

The Grand Forks - East Grand Forks MPO and UND have teamed up in evaluating transit services throughout the region by extending the scope of work for the transit plan to include the UND Shuttle service. The scope of work for the extended analysis includes:
  • Document current ridership, travel patterns, vehicles, schedules and cost of the on campus transit system.
  • Assess the productivity of subsegments of the four routes that make up the university system.
  • Identify and work with UND, the MPO, and the transit department to evaluate the need for and feasibility of short and longer term modifications to the shuttle service.
  • Develop recommendations for future system configuration, costs of any changes in service and an implementation schedule. Projects will be divided into those that are feasible/worthwhile to implement Fall 2011 and those that will need more time to develop and implement.

Meetings with the project steering committee are being held the week of June 20 and again the week of July 18. Preliminary findings/recommendations will be presented during the week of July 18. Updates will be added to the webpage.

If you have any questions regarding the UND Shuttle project, please contact Bill Troe at 620-9024 or contact him through email at bill_troe@urscorp.com.

What is the Transit Development Plan?

The transit development plan (TDP) is a five-year blueprint outlining what fixed route bus service and demand response / dial-a-ride transportation service are to be provided in the Grand Forks - East Grand Forks region. The plan will outline:
  • The current services relative to ridership, quality of service, cost, etc.
  • What gaps exist between what residents believe is needed for public transit service and what is currently being provided.
  • Growth and change that is expected in the region over the next 5 and 20+ years.
  • Changes to public transit service needed to support regional growth and development.
  • The costs of service alternatives and how those service could be funded.
How to Stay Involved
Between now and November 2011 we will be actively seeking your thoughts, ideas and opinions on C.A.T. fixed route and demand response bus services in Grand Forks - East Grand Forks.  Stay tuned to this website for updates on the study, and for more opportunities to participate.
